Cheltenham-based heating, plumbing and electrical specialists, SW&L, has been recognised for its commitment to nurturing local talent as finalists in the Large Employer of the Year category in the Gloucestershire Apprenticeship Awards 2019.
With more than 40 years in business, SW&L has a proven track record of training and developing apprentices and are thrilled to be in the running for this award.
“We’re absolutely delighted to be been shortlisted as Large Employer,” says John Rogers, Managing Director at SW&L. “As a business, it’s fantastic to be recognised for the effort we put in to training and developing our staff – and specifically our apprenticeship programme which we are particularly proud of.
“We took on 10 new apprentices in 2018 including plumbing, heating and electrical Level 2 and 3 as well as our first ever Business Administration Apprentice. The retention rate of apprentices at SW&L is testament to the level of support and quality of training we provide. There is a bright future at SW&L for our apprentices that qualify to be become lead engineers, site supervisors or contract managers. Several current longstanding employees started their career at SW&L as an apprentice.”
The winners of this year’s Gloucestershire Apprenticeship Awards, which aim to celebrate the future of apprenticeships and employment in the region, will be announced at an event on Thursday 7 March at Cheltenham Racecourse.
“It’s great to see how far we’ve come following our win last year in Employer of the Year category,” continues John. “We are proud to have continued to invest in local talent. Apprenticeships offer young people a fantastic alternative to university and as a business that now employs 22 apprentices, we’re committed to spreading that message and leading by example.”
